When you want to drive home a point, involve your audience in helping you make it. One of our clients did just that when she wanted to make a point with the audience about the importance of exercise, nutrition and rest.
First, she gave everyone in the audience a card from a deck of cards. Then she asked all the 'Hearts' to stand. She told them, "You will all live to be 80." Then she asked all the 'Diamonds' to stand. "You will all live to be 70," she told them. Next she asked the 'Spades' to stand. She told them they would all live to be 60. Last of all, she turned to the 'Clubs' and asked them to stand. "None of you will see your 60th birthday," she said.
She'd made her point: one fourth of the population won't make it to 60 if they don't make changes. She went on to speak with the audience about the kinds
of lifestyle changes they could make to heighten their chances of living beyond age 60.
