As the founder of Spoken Impact, Joan brings a unique talent mix of corporate communications and product marketing, public speaking development and business communications training to every assignment. With more than 30 years of practical business world experience, Joan helps clients develop speeches and business presentations that zero in on the interests of the audience while creating content that addresses them in an engaging, memorable and persuasive way. Prior to starting Spoken Impact in 2000, Joan ran marketing and training departments for a number of technology companies including Spanlink Communications, American Paging, Computer Network Technology, Aldata and I.C. System, Inc.
Joan has an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in New Business Ventures. She was the presentation coach for the MN Cup, an annual statewide competition for entrepreneurs and their breakthrough ideas for more than 10 years.
Marlene Johnson
Senior Consultant
Marlene has delivered communications training and executive coaching for more than 30 years and has worked with large corporate clients, small businesses, start-ups, and non-profit organizations. Before her consulting career, Marlene spent a number of years with John Hancock as part of the training and development team. As a Senior Consultant with Spoken Impact, Marlene coaches clients on presentation delivery and content development.
Drawing from her background in group dynamics, theater, writing, and storytelling, Marlene equips people with the skills they need to become more authentic and influential communicators. She has delivered over 100 tutorials for online courses in Conflict Resolution for Cappella University. She also offers training in conflict resolution and consensus building, business & sales writing, and provides speech writing services for clients in the technical, professional services, and consumer products companies.
Marlene holds a degree in English from the University of Minnesota and has studied acting at HB Studios in New York. She is also a member of the National Storytelling Network and served as past Board President of the Conflict Resolution Center in Minneapolis where she is a trained mediator in conflict resolution.
Paul Omodt
Senior Consultant
As a public speaking and media coach, Paul brings his hands-on style to give his public relations clients the practical, real life skills and techniques needed to be effective communicators and presenters. He also helps them develop the personal confidence and poise required for effective public relations.
As a public relations and public affairs strategist, Paul has helped shape some of the area’s highest profile news stories, ranging from corporate bankruptcies to airplane crashes and from product recalls to the 35W bridge collapse. Paul has served as a spokesperson for dozens of organizations, appearing as a spokesperson on all the major broadcast networks, CNN, Fox and others.
As a Senior Consultant with Spoken Impact Paul works with mid-level managers and senior executives who need to master their presentation skills.
Paul holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of St. Thomas where he also serves as an adjunct professor. He is accredited by the International Association of Business Communicators and the Public Relations Society of America.
Angela Shaughnessy
Manager
Angela has a BA from the College of St. Benedict and has over fifteen years of experience in marketing, education and project management. Since 2005 she has been responsible for a wide range of projects from managing the office to providing webinar training. She is the most multi-talented member of the Spoken Impact team.
