Is it Best Not to Eat Much Before Giving a Speech?

You don't want to give a speech on an empty stomach, but it's generally best to eat lightly before speaking. The wrong food and drink causes two problems for speakers: dry mouth and increased nervousness. So avoid the following:

  • Coffee, tea or caffeinated sodas
  • Alcoholic drinks
  • Milk, ice cream, & any milk-based product
  • Salty foods
